Training
Marilyn’s interactive training programs, available in person or remotely, help lawyers and other professionals improve their writing. Participants work on real-life exercises, learning practical solutions for common writing issues.
These are not lectures. Working both individually and in small groups, participants learn how to revise and tighten the work of others so that they can do a better job on their own work. Targeted exercises, focusing on coherence, clarity, and conciseness, help participants learn how to make writing more readable and more effective.
Participants often bring samples of their own work to a program. After many of the exercises, they have the opportunity to apply what they learn to their own writing.
Marilyn’s clients include law firms, corporate legal departments, government offices, and CLE organizations. She returns to many of her clients periodically to work with new groups of participants. At some clients, programs focus on IP professionals (lawyers, patent agents, and tech specialists). Participants sometimes include summer associates, paralegals, legal assistants, managers, and staff.
Each participant receives the LawWriting handbook, an Editing/Email Checklist, and a set of exercises.
The length and content of these programs can be customized, based on your needs.
Programs can also be customized for other professionals. Marilyn has worked with analysts and economists, with accountants and auditors, and with academics. Exercises and examples are taken from office work product to ensure that each program is relevant to participants’ needs.
