Unhappy with how some of your people write?
Marilyn works with lawyers and other professionals to help them improve their writing skills through hands-on training programs and one-on-one coaching.
These training programs are not lectures. Participants work on real-life exercises, some taken directly from office work product. Participants learn practical solutions for common writing issues.
Working both individually and in small groups, participants learn how to revise and tighten the work of others so that they can do a better job on their own work.
Targeted exercises, focusing on coherence, clarity, and conciseness, help participants learn how to make writing more readable and more effective.
Clients include law firms, corporate legal departments, government offices, and CLE organizations. Marilyn returns to many of her clients periodically to work with new groups of participants.
In addition to lawyers, program participants sometimes include summer associates, paralegals, legal assistants, managers, and staff.
Programs can be customized for other professionals. Marilyn has worked with analysts and economists, with accountants and auditors, and with academics. Exercises and examples are taken from office work product to ensure that each program is relevant to participants’ needs.
A program on effective email, Before Hitting Send: Tips for More Effective Email, is also available.
Training programs can be presented as virtual programs or on site (and video/web conferenced to your other offices).
One-on-one coaching is also available, as a follow up to a training program or for individuals identified as needing extra help with their writing.

The approximately 300 participants have expressed great appreciation for your level of expertise and your ability to “speak the PCAOB language”. The Business Writing Workshop was the highest rated session at this year’s event.

Participants were particularly enthusiastic about the real-life and hands-on exercises. You cover the challenging topic of writing in a professional and effective manner that reflects your knowledge of the realities of law firm life.

Your program exceeded our expectations. The content was very well organized and well-presented. Most importantly, the material and context you provided was specifically configured to our needs. Everyone I spoke with who participated indicated that the presentation was both very informative and fun.

Excellent for overall writing, regardless of the type of law practiced. Most courses focus solely on litigation-oriented writings. This one did not, which is what made it useful.
